LOKD COLLEGE, DHEKIAJULI

Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College (LOKD College) was established in the 15^th of July 1970 with the untiring efforts of some citizens and the public of the greater Dhekiajuli locality. Originally it was known as Dhekiajuli College, but later in the year 1975 it was renamed after great social worker, freedom fighter, leading Gandhian leader Mr. Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das. This great personality was the first Education Minister of Assam in Independent India. The college is situated at the gateway of Dhekiajuli by the roadside of NH52 in the district of Sonitpur of Assam. The college is established in its own plot of land comprising about 16 acres.

The college provides better academic as well as other facilities to meet the demands of the diverse ethinic, linguistic communities like Assamese, Bengalis, Nepalis, Bodos, Koch-Rajbanshis, Religious minorities, several Tea & Ex-Tea Tribes, etc. The college infrastructure is well developed with security concern. Since the inception of this institution, it has produced many distinguished scholars and worthy educated citizens of the country. Now this institution has become one of the premier institutions of Assam, and is rapidly progressing.

Originally the college offered education in Higher Secondary and Bachelor Degree level only in Arts stream. But in the later part of the eighties, the need for the Science stream was strongly felt and in 1992 the college succeeded to introduced Science stream for the young aspirant of the state and the country. To meet the growing demands opened by the corporate enterprises, the college has launch the new professional degree course Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from 2007-2008 session under Guwahati University (GU). The student can also take admission in the B.Com.(General) course.

The LOKD has been accredited by National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) and with grading of B+. Various developmental activities are in progress with the inclusion of teachers and non-teaching staff members.

The college has 18 departments which includes Assamese, Bengalis, Bodos, English, Nepalis, Economics, Education, Geography, History, Political Science, Logic and Philosophy, Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology, Commerce and Business Administration with  57 full time and 20 part time teachers.
